| dc.description.abstract | In this Project Work, the sculptural interpretation explores the ability to transmute matter and reconfigure the perception of the materiality of nature itself. Through the transformation of materials, the work reimagines natural elements such as rocks and trees into new sculptural forms. The Project Work attributes a re-signification and expansion of boundaries between the natural and the intentional. The sculptures are based on the essence of matter and the foundation of imagination in sculptural creation. The theme “Imaginação da Matéria” (Imagination of Matter) is the discursive component that underpins and theorises the Project Work. In sculptural practice, steel is chosen as the discursive element that equates matter as a whole from the expressiveness of natural elements, re-evaluating the evolution of raw matter into material and vice versa through sculptural interpretation. It is divided into three moments: “Como Outra Matéria” (Like Other Matter) sculptural series that expresses a re-signification of the materiality of natural elements. “As Pedras Também Respiram” (The Stones Also Breathe) sculptures that question the purpose of the porosity of rocky elements by equating it to the behavior of a tree's bark. “As Árvores Também Erodem” (Trees Also Erode) Interpretation that refers to the organicity of the rough surface of tree bark, relativising the natural behavior of materiality through the process of weathering | pt_PT |
