The demand for studying Portuguese as a foreign language has been on the increase due to the need for improvement and adaptation to different target audiences. Bearing in mind, that the greatest demand for Portuguese as Foreign Language (PFL) classes comes from adults, a thorough and detailed investigation is needed when dealing with this topic; raising awareness of the main reason that leads students to learn the Portuguese language: communication in a personal and daily-life context. The students, in this study are adult students who want to learn PFL in Lisbon in order to be able to communicate in daily and non-professional life situations. The demand for private lessons has recently increased as the number of well-off foreigners, who can afford these lessons, has grown. Economic power is undoubtedly a key factor to take into account when confronting private lessons and group lessons. With the widespread advancement in technology and its easy accessibility to everyone across the globe; the internet, didactic and interactive materials are in greater demand and in this field there is a shortage in relation to EP. Students are increasingly looking for platforms and interactive grammar websites instead of traditional books. Nowadays, these methods of learning are extremely important tools and sometimes are the main reasons which influence student’s choice of the various teaching offers available. On the whole, a significant majority of foreign students are very familiar with these methods of learning. We are facing a multicultural context in all its aspects: people, languages and cultures, with diverse needs and objectives. Individual study provides answers to the multiple needs of a student, but also requires greater preparation, planning and availability on the teacher’s part. Not to mention that there is the additional need to create new interactive materials that will meet students' requirements and live up to their expectations. Individual classes are also more dependent on the student and teacher having equal interactions. The main objective of this study is to help provide suggestions to improve instruction that we must make, as teachers, in order to always better correspond to students' expectations and fundamentally contribute to their overall success.
