As determinantes das exportações portuguesas para a Zona Euro : uma análise usando dados de painel ao nível das principais empresas

O presente estudo faz a análise da evolução das exportações portuguesas para a Zona Euro e os seus factores determinantes, no período entre 2006 e 2015, tendo por base uma amostra das 100 maiores empresas exportadoras para a Zona Euro. De forma a atingir este objectivo, realizou-se para o mesmo período temporal a caracterização da evolução das exportações portuguesas, por principais tipos de produtos exportados e por principais países de destino. A caracterização da amostra evidencia a forte presença de empresas da região Norte e o crescimento de várias empresas no que diz respeito à sua dimensão ao longo do período de análise. Seleccionando as 5 maiores empresas e as 5 maiores pequenas e médias empresas (PME´s) presentes na amostra, procedeu-se à sua comparação com recurso a indicadores económicos e empresariais. No que diz respeito ao modelo econométrico, usando dados em painel e os estimadores de efeitos fixos e efeitos aleatórios, tem como variável dependente as exportações e como variáveis explicativas a produtividade, os salários médios, as despesas em investigação e desenvolvimento (I&D), a autonomia financeira, os resultados líquidos e duas variáveis dummy Norte e Dimensão. Na generalidade, os resultados dos modelos estimados confirmam o efeito positivo da produtividade, das despesas em I&D e da dimensão das empresas na evolução das exportações. Contrariamente ao esperado, os resultados líquidos apresentam um efeito negativo e os salários médios apresentam um efeito positivo no desempenho das exportações.
This study analyzes the evolution of Portuguese exports to the Euro Area and its determinants in the period between 2006 and 2015, based on a sample of the 100 largest exporting companies to the Euro Area. To achieve this objective, considering the same period, it was made a characterization of the evolution of Portuguese exports, taking into account the main types of exported products and countries of destination. The characterization of the sample shows the strong presence of companies in the North region and the growth of several companies with regard to their size over the period of analysis. Selecting the 5 largest companies and the 5 largest SMEs present in the sample, they were compared using economic and business indicators. With regard to the econometric model using panel data, fixed effects and random effects estimators, it has exports as dependent variable and productivity, average salaries, expenses in research and development (R&D), financial autonomy, net results and two dummy variables (north and dimension) as explanatory variables. In general, the results of the estimated models confirm the positive effect of productivity, R&D expenditures and the size of companies in the evolution of exports. Contrary to expectations, net results have a negative effect and average wages have a positive effect on export performance.
