O objetivo do presente trabalho foi evidenciar as potenciais vantagens da utilização de plantas halófitas na indústria farmacêutica, cosmética e outras de âmbito geral. Para o efeito, foi realizada pesquisa bibliográfica na área da fitoquímica de algumas das mais importantes famílias halofíticas, bem como o seu interesse biológico.
Um estudo descritivo e botânico do seu habitat, das adaptações morfológicas, fisiológicas e químicas que sofreram e da sua distribuição em Portugal Continental, bem como alguns exemplos de espécies são também apresentados.
Uma breve descrição dos usos de algumas espécies na medicina tradicional foi feita, colmatando com exemplos de estudos recentes que evidenciam a grande versatilidade destas plantas na indústria farmacêutica e dermocosmética.
The main objective of the present work was to exhibit the prospective worth of using halophytes in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries and others of broad scope. Therefore, a bibliographic research of the phytochemical properties of some of the most important halophytic species was performed, as well as its biological effect. A descriptive and botanical study of their habitat, the morphological, physiological and chemical adaptations they have suffered and its distribution in Portugal, as well as some examples of species are also here presented. A brief description of the uses of some species in traditional medicine was carried out, supported by recent studies that show the versatility of these plants in the pharmaceutical and dermocosmetic industries.
