O propósito deste trabalho passa por expor algumas considerações a respeito da presença e actuação dos grupos de origem servil em âmbito votivo, no Sul da Lusitânia, procedendo ainda à averiguação de algumas ideias que têm sido difundidas pela literatura desta temática, a respeito da representatividade de escravos e libertos na epigrafia votiva e da natureza das divindades por eles cultuadas no contexto mais lato da Hispânia.
Com vista a cumprir este propósito, recorremos à epigrafia latina como principal fonte informativa, a qual,
embora quantitativamente modesta e susceptível a dificuldades de interpretação, decorrentes da complexa
identificação de escravos e libertos nas inscrições, afigura-se-nos informativa nestes aspectos, corroborando o importante papel destes grupos nas vivências socioculturais da Lusitânia.
This paper aims to present some views on the votive presence and activity of the servile groups in Southern Lusitania, while also examining certain ideas which have featured in the literature pertaining to these topics, regarding the representation of slaves and freedmen in the votive epigraphy, and the nature of the worshipped deities in the broader context of Hispania. In order to fulfil this purpose, the Latin epigraphy will be deployed as the main informative source, despite its modest dimension and susceptibility to interpretation problems, due to the complex identification of slaves and freedmen in the inscriptions, given its potential to bring us information on such aspects, validating the important role of these groups in the socio-cultural undertakings of Lusitania.
