This thesis focused on the study assessment of the effect of an alcohol related problems prevention program named "Eu & os Outros – História 9", built based on the social and emotional learning approach (SEL). This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of the program implementation in a group of 18 high school teens and in a group of 40 adolescents institutionalized in educational centers, checking for differences between these groups of participants in pre and post program implementation. The assessed variables focused on the knowledge of the effects of alcohol consumption, attitudes towards alcohol consumption and pattern of alcohol consumption evidenced by oneself, perceptions of self-efficacy in managing situations related with alcohol consumption and socio-emotional skills. The evaluation was based on the gathering and analysis of the contents of self-report questionnaires, completed at pre and post intervention times (with a range of approximately 10 weeks) and on the analysis of an overall satisfaction questionnaire completed by the participants after the last session of the program. The results showed an effect of the program on knowledge relating to alcohol in the non-institutionalized group, however they were inconclusive concerning to the comparison of the effect of the program in the two groups in terms of the effectiveness of the program. The overall assessment of satisfaction of the participants showed a good acceptance and adequacy of the program contents and dynamics to adolescents in general. Some assumptions for further investigation were proposed as well as the need for studies with larger samples and equivalent groups. The introduction of a control group was also suggested.
