Esta dissertação é sobre a obra poética de Ruy Belo (1933 – 1978). Está dividida em três capítulos. No primeiro capítulo descrevo a problemática central na poesia beliana, que considero ser a problemática da separação (do ponto de vista da relação do sujeito com um “amigo perdido” e do ponto de vista da relação da linguagem com o sentido), e relaciono-a com a noção romântica de consciência (e auto-consciência). A partir daqui, começo a desenvolver, no segundo e terceiro capítulos, o meu argumento principal segundo o qual esta poesia, apesar de tudo, supera (ainda que precariamente) o problema da separação. Assim, no segundo capítulo, procuro mostrar a presença de uma vertente redentora (de índole homeopática) nesta poesia, que tem a ver com uma deslocação da finalidade para uma “preparação”, e que está relacionada com três tópicos que estão interligados, viz., a conservação da amada na memória, o “perigo”/”risco” e a “preparação” (da morte). O terceiro capítulo é dedicado, sobretudo, ao tema central da “ficção da morte” e ao modo como esta ficção fornece, em ligação com os tópicos do capítulo anterior, uma solução real, ainda que deflacionada, para o problema da separação. No final, defendo que a perspectiva redentora assenta, em suma, na possibilidade de a poesia (não obstante a sua índole alegórica) “apontar” para “(…) uma/ só coisa coberta de nomes”.
This dissertation is on Ruy Belo’s poetry (1933 – 1978). It is divided into three chapters. In the first chapter, I describe what I consider to be the main issue in Belo’s poetry, viz., the issue of separateness (from the perspective of the relation between the subject and a “lost friend” and of the relation between language and meaning), while relating the issue with the romantic notion of consciousness (and self-consciousness). From here on (in the second and third chapters of this dissertation), I begin elaborating my argument by which this poetry can solve (albeit precariously) the issue of separateness. Thus, in the second chapter, I attempt to demonstrate the presence in this poetry of a redemptive dimension (of a homeopathic nature) that has to do with a displacement of the end to a form of “preparation”, and that is related to three interrelated topics, viz., the preservation of the beloved in the memory, “danger”/”risk”, and “preparation” (of death). The third chapter deals mainly with the topic of “fiction of death” and with the way in which this fiction provides (in connection with the topics from the previous chapter) a real solution (albeit deflated) to the issue of separateness. At the end, I argue that the redemptive perspective relies, in general, on the possibility poetry has (despite its allegorical nature) of “pointing” to “(…) one/ single thing covered with names”.
