Resumo(s)
This study is based on a national approach, focusing on the local reality of Lisbon, about the role of temporary exhibitions in the cultural institutions of contemporary art, intending to examine the reality and scale of these corresponding in one hand, on its relationship to the experiences museological, curatorial and museographic of today and, in the other hand, with the social and cultural environment in which they develop. Introducing some problems and possible solutions surrounding the complex activity of temporary exhibitions - such as their meaning and role - we pretend to achieve a practical approach through identification and observation of case studies, not forgetting the theoretical basis for understanding the abstract connections that unite the contemporary art and its institutionalisation. This study starts up as a way of understanding the symbolic system that connects through discourse, interpretation and representation the impact produced by the temporary exhibition, what it produces and its forms of presentation. This research aims to point to a possible construction of the meaning of temporary exhibitions through a deepening of research studies that seek to identify and discuss the relevance of the interrelations between art skills, the exhibitions and cultural institutions of contemporary art. Outlining a picture of the current situation and outline further critical reflection, this study involves an approach whose focus of interest is the survey of the exhibition places of contemporary art in Lisbon - specifically the National Museum of Chiado Contemporary Art (MNAC) and the Centre Modern Art of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (CAM-Calouste), which tend to develop expository function permanently and continuously
