"O papá foi para a guerra, e agora?" : o impacto das missões internacionais na parentalidade em famílias militares : um estudo exploratório

As famílias militares lidam com exigências específicas associadas ao contexto profissional
militar, tais como a separação do militar da restante família, por participação em missão
internacional. Esta experiência pode ter diferentes impactos, em função dos aspetos particulares
da missão, como duração e localização geográfica, mas também em função do sistema de
vinculação familiar e dos recursos disponíveis. O presente estudo exploratório, qualitativo,
pretende expandir o campo de investigação sobre o impacto da participação nestas missões
especificamente na parentalidade. Como principais objetivos tem: explorar perceções de
possíveis alterações ao nível dos aspetos funcionais e relacionais da parentalidade, resultantes
da participação da figura parental masculina em missões internacionais, explorar o impacto do
deslocamento desta figura na relação mãe-filhos e identificar possíveis recursos utilizados,
antes, durante e após o deslocamento, para diminuir o impacto da ausência da figura parental
masculina na relação pais-filhos. A amostra é constituída por um recorte do universo de mães
de famílias militares portuguesas, contando com nove participantes. Recorreu-se à entrevista
semiestruturada para recolha de dados, procedendo-se à análise temática dos mesmos, através
de um processo abdutivo e com recurso ao software QSR Nvivo10. As principais alterações ao
funcionamento familiar surgem associadas à fase do deslocamento, refletindo-se na gestão de
responsabilidades, na relação mãe-filhos e no envolvimento do pai militar. Do mesmo modo,
os principais recursos utilizados são o suporte social e os meios de comunicação, sobretudo
durante a ausência física do militar. Por fim, são consideradas limitações desta investigação e
apontadas implicações para investigação futura e para a intervenção com estas famílias.
Military families cope with specific challenges associated with professional military context, such as the separation of the military member from the rest of the family, because of participation in international missions. This experience may have different impacts, depending on the particular aspects of the mission, such as duration and geographical location, but also due to a system of family attachment and available resources. This exploratory, qualitative study aims to expand the field of research on the impact of participation in such missions, specifically on parenting. The main objectives are: exploring perceptions of possible changes at the level of functional and relational aspects of parenting, resulting from the participation of the male parental figure in international missions, explore the impact of deployment of this figure in the mother-child relationship and identify possible resources used before, during, and after deployment, to reduce the impact of the absence of the male parental figure in the parentchild relationship. The sample consists of a clipping of the universe of Portuguese mothers of military families, with nine participants. Resorted to semi-structured interviews for data collection, proceeding to thematic analysis, through an abduction process and using QSR NVivo10 software. The main changes in family functioning appear related to the deployment phase, reflecting on the management of responsibilities, the parent-child relationship and the involvement of the military father. Similarly, the main resources used are social support and communication means, especially during the physical absence of the military. Limitations of this research and some implications for future research and intervention with these families are considered.
