Escrever poesia ou escrever poesia por meio de tradução é uma espécie de acto
desviante – podemos ir a Milton em socorro de uma palavra adequada e chamá-lo um
acto satânico. De certa forma, o fabbro por trás do poema adapta o poema de escolha
aos seus próprios assuntos. Há, deve observar-se, vários tipos de tradução. Decerto
gostaria que o presente trabalho obedecesse ao domínio da tradução literária ou poética,
em oposição a um exercício de natureza mais técnica ou prosaica. Podemos chamar a
isso uma versão, ou, melhor ainda, interpretação (interpretação lírica). Aqui me ocuparei
de interpretar e comentar em e para português os sonetos ingleses de William
Shakespeare, à luz de um entendimento da tradução enquanto modo de interpretação
literária.
Writing poetry, indeed writing poetry via translation, is a kind of deviant act — one might go to Milton in search of an apt word and call it altogether a satanic act. In a way, the fabbro behind the text adapts the poem of his choice to his own subjects. There are, it should be noted, several types of translation. I would certainly like this work to fall into the domain of literary or poetic translation, as opposed to an exercise of a more and mere technical or prosaic nature. We can call this a version, or, better yet, interpretation (lyrical interpretation). Here I will focus on interpreting and commenting on William Shakespeare’s English Sonnets in and into Portuguese, in the light of an understanding of translation as a mode of literary interpretation.
