O interesse pela possibilidade de se auto-representar, não sendo novo, encontra terreno particularmente fecundo na produção literária do século XX. A compreensão desse fenómeno, observado na obra do escritor português José Rodrigues Miguéis (1901–1980), constitui o núcleo essencial deste projecto. Para que possamos definir os contornos do nosso campo de investigação, atenta-se na evolução teórica do termo autobiografia, observando em que medida a composição romanesca de Miguéis articula um processo de desdobramento do sujeito. Far-se-á então uma leitura actualizada de uma selecção de textos migueisianos, trabalhando com elementos textuais e paratextuais que apontam para diferentes formas de se pensar e de se representar a si mesmo. Parte deste trabalho intenta mostrar em que medida a obra de Miguéis se inscreve num género literário que desestabiliza as relações entre a memória e a imaginação, particularmente nas narrativas centradas no agenciamento e na reconstrução do passado.
L’intérêt pour la possibilité de s’auto-représenter n’est pas nouveau. Celui-ci trouve un terrain particulièrement fécond dans la production littéraire du XXe siècle. La compréhension de ce phénomène, observé dans l’oeuvre de l’auteur portugais José Rodrigues Miguéis (1901–1980), constitue le noyau essentiel de ce projet. Afin de définir les contours de notre travail d’investigation, nous serons particulièrement attentifs à l’évolution théorique du terme autobiographie. Nous chercherons à comprendre dans quelle mesure la composition romanesque de Miguéis articule un processus de dédoublement du sujet. Nous ferons ainsi une lecture actualisée d’une sélection de textes migueisiens en travaillant avec des éléments textuels et paratextuels, indicateurs des différentes façons de penser et de se représenter soi-même. Une partie de ce travail cherche à montrer dans quelle mesure l’oeuvre de Miguéis est inscrite dans un genre littéraire qui déstabilise les relations entre mémoire et imagination, notamment dans des récits centrés sur l’agencement et la reconstruction du passé.
A concern with the possibility of self-representation is not new though it seems singularly productive in twentieth-century literature. This project is focused on understanding how this possibility translates in the work of Portuguese writer José Rodrigues Miguéis (1901–1980). Our investigation, framed by the evolution of autobiography as a theoretical term, will also observe how Miguéis's romanesque composition articulates an unfolding of the self. We will then undertake an up-to-date reading of a selection of Migueisian texts, working through texts and paratexts which point to different ways of thinking and representing the self. We thus aim to show how Miguéis's work inscribes itself in a literary genre and disrupts how memory and imagination are connected, as particularly seen in narratives centered on agency and the reconstruction of the past.
