Um fosso em Gonçalvinhos? Os dados e as questões em aberto no povoamento neolítico de Mafra

Este estudo pretende realizar a caracterização do sítio pré-histórico dos Gonçalvinhos (Mafra). Apesar de terem sido efetuadas recolhas de superfície no local ainda no século XIX, foi apenas a intervenção arqueológica de 2005, no âmbito das ações preventivas para a construção da Auto Estrada Mafra-Ericeira, que permitiu definir o contexto crono-cultural da ocupação aí identificada, genericamente enquadrada no Neolítico regional. As sondagens realizadas demonstraram a inexistência de níveis de ocupação preservados, situação decorrente do elevado grau de afetação dos trabalhos agrícolas que aí ocorreram. Porém, foram reconhecidas duas estruturas negativas, um fosso e uma fossa, que vieram alterar profundamente a perspetiva sobre o sítio. Juntamente com as evidências artefactuais, entendemos que se trata de um núcleo habitacional permanente, provavelmente de pequena dimensão. Discutem-se estes dados no âmbito dos padrões de povoamento neolíticos da Baixa Estremadura, onde a presença deste tipo de estruturas é manifestamente escassa até ao momento.
This study aims to characterize the prehistoric site of Gonçalvinhos (Mafra). Even though it was identified in the late 19th century, it was only the archaeological excavation carried out in 2005, within the scope of the preventive actions for the construction of the Mafra-Ericeira freeway, that permitted the definition of the chrono-cultural context for this settlement, generally framed within the regional Neolithic. The excavation works revealed that there were no preserved archaeological units, a situation that stems from the intensive agricultural activities that severely affected the integrity of the archaeological deposits. However, it was possible to identify two negative structures, a ditch and a pit, that ultimately changed the perspective concerning this site. Along with the artefactual evidence, we suggest that this site refers to a small Neolithic settlement. We discuss this data in the extent of the Portuguese Estremadura Neolithic patterns, where these sorts of structures are very scarce.
