As
Becoming a parent represents a stage in the couple's life where many changes occur, with a rearrangement of the family dynamic which implies positive and negative effects. There's vast literature regarding this stage especially about the influence of various aspects related to satisfaction and commitment in couples. This investigation aimed to understand how certain variables, Division of labour, Parental Envolvement, Competence Sence of Parenthing, Gender Roles, Parental Envolvement, Parental stress, Constructive Thinking, o Emotion Work, Commitment and Relationship Satisfaction, are influenced by the transition to parenthood and contribute to the relationship's quality and stability in this stage. For this investigation an online questionnaire was used with two moments of data collection: the first when the couples were in the third trimester; the other after the birth. The available sample for the final analysis for this investigation had 233 participants, 212 females (91%) and 21 males (9%) for the first moment of data collection, and 51 females (86%) and 8 males (14%) for the second moment of data collection. The data was processed using the SPSS Statistics and SPSS AMOS 27 softwares. The results showed that satisfaction and commitment decrease in the transition to parenthood for both members of the couple. The variables that seem to have the most crucial role in maintaining relational satisfaction and commitment are the emotional work of both members of the couple, parental stress, feeling of parental competence - efficacy and constructive thought, that is, the coping strategies used, especially emotional coping and behavioral coping. Some implications of this investigation are pointed out, specifically, for psychologist and public measures for this population.
