The main purpose of this project “Between gesture and surface” is to explore the act of mark making on a surface, questioning the process of drawing, and aiming to build a glossary of drawing marks. The transversal way of thinking in this project is to reflect on drawing as a process and as matter. This is a body of work composed of series of drawings where the plastic potential of the materials that produce the marks and the surface supports that receive them are explored. The graphic language adopted is limited to a game of dot and line elements, and the research is based on the concepts of repetition and variation. In addition to reflecting on marks and drawing surfaces, at a later stage the concept of drawing tool was called into question. Initially, traditional drawing materials were explored, and later tools, which are not conventionally associated with drawing, were used to register graphic marks. In a final phase, some drawing tools of my own were explored, which were developed with the purpose of reflecting on the role that the body plays when registering graphic marks. Due to the exploratory nature of this project, the body of work developed was organized according to series, in which each one establishes a predefined system of rules, with the purpose of reflecting on the various possibilities of the research that we propose to develop.
