Objectivo: Este trabalho tem como objectivo descrever o protocolo de diagnóstico em disfunção temporomandibular DC/TMD. Materiais e Métodos: Foi efectuada uma pesquisa no motor de busca Google e na base de dados Pubmed, bem como no site do International RDC/TMD Consortium Network. A pesquisa extende-se desde 1992 até 2012, incluindo apenas em artigos em inglês. Resultados: O DC/TMD é um protocolo que surge da necessidade de revisão do RDC/TMD, que tem sido o protocolo de referência em disfunção temporomandibular até à data. O eixo I do Diagnostic Criteria For Temporomandibular Disorders (DC/TMD) inclui critérios válidos para DTM mais comum associada a dor e disfunção articular. O protocolo do eixo II encontra-se simplificado e com instrumentos de avaliação adicionais quando indicado. Conclusão: O DC/TMD representa um passo significativo face ao RDC/TMD, e permite uma avaliação exaustiva do paciente com DTM baseada no modelo biopsicossocial da dor, sendo apropriado para implementação na prática clínica e em investigação.
Objectives: This paperwork has the objective of describing the temporomandibular diagnostic protocol DC/TMD. Materials and Methods: A research was made in the search engine Google and the Pubmed database, as well as the website of the International RDC/TMD Consortium Network. The research ranges from1992 to 2012, including only articles in English. Results: The DC/TMD is a protocol which comes from the necessity of revision of the RDC/TMD, wich has been the reference protocol in the diagnosis of temporomandibular disorders. The DC/TMD axis I provides valid criteria for the most common pain related TMD and articular disorders. The axis II protocol is simplified with added assessment instruments when indicated. Conclusion: The DC/TMD represents a significative step forward from the RDC/TMD and provides a comprehensive assessment of the TMD patient based on the biopsicossocial model of pain, and is appropriate for both clinical and research use.
