O deslocamento dorsal à esquerda do cólon maior (DDEC) é uma das causas de cólica em cavalos.
A termo comparativo, a revisão bibliográfica, acrescenta uma descrição de outras alterações do trato
gastrointestinal (TGI) responsáveis por dor abdominal aguda (cólica), incidindo sobre a etiologia,
diagnóstico e tratamento. Este estudo tem como objectivo descrever as principais características
clinicas do DDCE, nomeadamente os parâmetros do exame clinico, os achados dos exames
complementares no diagnostico, assim como o método terapêutico e eventuais técnicas cirúrgicas,
incluindo o encerramento do espaço nefrosplénico (EENS). Comparando cada caso, são ainda
apresentadas as respostas ao tratamento instaurado, possíveis complicações e desfecho do caso. Este
estudo foi feito com base em 15 casos clínicos, os quais foram acompanhados durante o estágio
curricular realizado em duas instituições. De forma geral, os sintomas de cólica registados foram
moderados e recorreu-se ao tratamento conservador em 11 casos, tendo sido bem sucedida em 10.
Deste estudo concluiu-se que, na grande maioria, os resultados do diagnóstico e abordagem de
tratamento eram coerentes com as publicações científicas desta causa de cólica.
ABSTRACT - Left dorsal displacement of the colon in the horse and surgical techniques of closure of the nephrosplenic space: bibliographic review and case reports - The left dorsal displacement (LDD) of the ascendant colon is one of the causes of colic in horses. In order to compare the different types of colic, the literature review introduces some aspects of the etiology, diagnosis and treatment for these affections. The present study has the purpose to describe the incidence, risk factors, pathophysiology, diagnostic methods, treatment approach, complications and prognosis of LDD in horses, and summarize surgical procedures of closure of the nephrosplenic space. The series of case reports diagnosed with LDD describe the diagnostic and therapeutic approach, as well as the short term prognosis of horses with this condition. With this end fifteen cases, observed during the curricular externship performed in two different veterinary institutions, were evaluated.The recorded symptoms of colic pain were mild and a conservative approach was used in 11 of the cases, 10 of which survived till discharge. The author concluded that the majority of the diagnostic and therapeutic results were similar to those observed in published literature regarding the LDD.
