ABSTRACT - FELINE CHRONIC GINGIVOSTOMATITIS - The best therapeutic strategy in cats with feline chronic gingivostomatitis remains unclear, as the clinical results of the different studies do not find an effective treatment for this disease with multifactorial etiology. In this retrospective study, 80 cats were submitted to surgical treatment with total or partial tooth extractions, in which the pre surgical and complementary treatments were reviewed. It was possible to observe that cats with lesions of caudal mucositis and glossitis have worse responses to treatment. Performing total or partial tooth extractions doesn’t influence the response to treatment. No significant differences were observed between the different treatments performed in the pre surgical period or after the surgical procedure as complementary treatment. No treatment showed a clear advantage in the resolution of the clinical presentation. The treatment of feline chronic gingivostomatitis continues to be mainly palliative and without consistent results, due to the heterogeneity of factors that contribute to its etiopathogenesis.
