Introduction: Oral health providers play a major role in educating their patients, families and friends. One of the main purposes of teaching dentistry is training professionals whose main task is to motivate their patients into adopting a positive attitude towards oral hygiene. Aim: The main objective of the present study was to assess oral health condition of dental students in different academic levels. Additionally, through behaviours, habits and attitudes analysis, it aimed to characterize the studied population’s periodontal health status. Materials and Methods: Dental students from FMDUL filled out a form about self-reported oral health behaviours, habits and attitudes, based on HU-DBI, available online using “Google Forms”. Statistical analysis was then conducted. Results: This study sample consisted of 194 students (164 female and 30 male who were mean age of 21,4), of which 76,3% never smoked; 5,2% brushes their teeth for less than a minute; 69,1% employs a specific brushing technique; 87,1% checks their teeth in the mirror after brushing; 89,2% uses toothpaste, being Colgate® the most used brand (37,1%) and the criteria of choice more often mentioned the fluoride presence (29,9%), taste (7,9%) and desensitizing action (4,6%); 42,8% reports gingival bleeding; 28,4% reports visible soft deposits; 84% has changed their oral health habits; 72% evaluates their periodontal health as “good”. Conclusion: A relation was found between years of study and smoking habits, toothbrushing duration, toothbrushing technique, checking teeth in the mirror after brushing, use of toothpaste, gingival bleeding, detection of soft deposits, oral health habits change and perceived oral health status.
