dc.description.abstract	The arrival of photography allowed mankind to capture the moment, therefore changing the way it sees and relates to everything around it. Simultaneously, it also created the illusion that from the capture of that moment it became possible to freeze time forever, even though unconsciously, we live with constant fear of oblivion, of disappearing and, ultimately, death. To counter this, we created mechanisms that conserve the past and the present and some others that extend the future. If we use photography with the main intent of keeping intimate and familiar memories, on a day to day basis we also use little reminders as a more practical tool, still, the idea of continuity and extension remains to keep us away from the notion of an ending. This notion spreads to simple and mundane actions like the concept of collecting and, regarding photography, reflects on the need we have to register, catalog and organize albums of all the images that represent and build our personal, familiar and collective identity. This ritual process is also shaped by social models and guidelines. Therefore, we capture births, weddings, leisure activities, trips and any moment of significance to which we can return to and reminisce whenever we so desire after we trap it in photographic paper. We photograph, collect and organize in photo albums the images that narrate and build memories. Usually, an horizontal reading of a family albums is implicit, meaning, there's a strong tendency to organize them chronologically, making it more relational to the individual and the group.
