Abstract(s)
In this communication, we will analyse two specific products of the cartographic legacy corresponding to the nautical cartography of Portuguese matrix: world maps and manuscript atlases. We selected cartographic specimens from the first half of the 16th century between the Cantino planisphere of 1502 and the maps and atlases drawn around the same time that André Homem signed his emblematic planisphere, corresponding to a period in which the production of this type of objects seems to have increased significantly in relation to the previous decades.
