dc.description.abstract	The present essay pretends to be a contribution to the works of Eduardo Viana, who dedicated most of his life to the painting of still-life genre. In this sense, we originally pretend to find the genesis of the word and know its course in Portuguese artistic environment. Viana played a decisive roll in national modernism, in spite of living abroad for 25 years. When he finally returned home, persecuted by the Second World War, he exclusively dedicated himself to still-life painting, having been rewarded with several prizes. The analysis of the Portuguese and European environment and the artist’s life were essential for the study of its deeds. Here we present those who knew him closely, his Portuguese and foreigner friends as well as those who, directly or indirectly, exerted some influence in his work, with the analysis, comparison and dissection of it’s work	por
