Objective: This thesis has as its main goal to understand the impact of depressive disorder on coronary artery disease, trying to establish a pathophysiologic and behavioral connection between the two. Methodology: A research was carried out on the concepts of depression, antidepressants, emotional stress and coronary artery disease in the Google Scholar, PubMed, Cochrane and SciLo databases. Articles in English were selected and subsequently applied the previously defined selection criteria. Results: From a total of 186 articles, 19 were selected. Several reviews and studies have shown that there are some proposed pathophysiologic mechanisms that may explain the link between the depressive disorders and the coronary artery diseases, further demonstrating the impact of these psychiatric conditions on the latter, both in terms of maintenance, therapy and prognosis of these patients. Conclusion: The depressive disorder have a clear impact in the maintenance of coronary artery disease, in the therapy and in its prognosis, being, therefore, of extremely importance that we carry out a timely identification, followed by a careful and directed clinical management, in order to improve the outcome, the life expectancy and quality of life of these patients.
