Resumo(s)
“Sustainability” is defined as design, construction, and maintenance practices that meet the
needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own
needs.
The study begins with the characterization of the principles of sustainability and the importance of
their application in any landscape project.
Subsequently, it describes the importance of landscape for tourism and its contribution in the
economical development of the Sultanate of Oman. Focus is on natural resources used in the
design of landscape architecture that must be protected and used sustainably to respect the
environment and wildlife in an attempt not to destroy but to develop in harmony with local
communities.
Finally, these theories are applied in the project of Six Senses Spa in Al-Bustan Palace Hotel in
Muscat, where a concept was created that contributes to local sustainable development reducing
environmental and social impact taking into account the need to preserve the landscape that has
a historical and cultural value, as well as the existing natural resources.
