Octave Mirbeau, 1990: 259.
This thesis of artistic nature, is part of a PhD in Audiovisual Studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. The thesis includes three documents: a catalog, a DVD and a dissertation. The catalog is the memory of the exhibition that took place at the Serralves Museum from July 12 to September 29, 2013. This exhibition was a device that presented itself in two alternating energetic states, thus creating a potential difference. The DVD includes views of this exhibition. The dissertation corresponds to a resonant mental structure. It develops as a nar¬rative that binds an artistic, literary, theoretical and scientific thought that is inseparable from the artworks presented in the text and whose titles introduce the different chapters. This dissertation is preceded by an introduction that announces the process un¬derlying the making of the works in the exhibition, and is followed by a conclusion that restarts the debate on the role of the artist and the concept of art as a domain for research in the context of art schools and academies. The dissertation is a tangential narrative which doesn’t compromise the existential autonomy of the art object. The work of art cannot be explained and we don’t explain it. The artwork can be felt and we feel it and, conversely, nothing else. And this is one of its obvious superiorities, an absolute proof of its beauty and one of its ad¬mirable privileges, that words and comments can add nothing to and that by interfering risk altering the simple and silent emotion (...).
