Este artigo tem como origem a análise das interseções entre a literatura e a prática turística e
pretende reflexionar sobre as dinâmicas culturais e identitárias geradas à volta de um dos fenómenos mais relevantes da contemporaneidade, o turismo. Concretamente, parte de um trabalho de campo que procura identificar a presença e funções da literatura nos materiais turísticos relativos a Portugal no período compreendido entre 1898 e 1989, para, a partir das deduções realizadas, refletir sobre os novos papéis atribuídos à literatura nas dinâmicas globais atuais e sobre o seu funcionamento distintivo relativamente a outras artes. A tendência detetada para a invisibilidade ou para a simplificação das formas culturais leva finalmente a questionar-nos sobre as implicações na configuração identitária de Portugal e sobre as suas
consequências futuras.
The origin of this article is the analysis of the intersections between literature and the tourist practice, in order to think about the cultural and identity dynamics that emerge from one of the most important phenomena today, tourism. The starting point for this study is a fieldwork that seeks to identify the presence and functions of literature in tourism materials about Portugal produced in the period between 1898 and 1989. The aim is to reflect on the new roles played by literature in the current global dynamics and its distinctive functioning in relation to other arts. The detected tendency to make invisible or to simplify cultural forms leads us to question about its implications in the identity of Portugal and its future consequences.
