Os agentes químicos de guerra (AQG) são compostos que servem para matar ou ferir
gravemente pessoas civis ou militares. Embora o uso deste tipo de compostos tenha sido
proibido há muitos anos, ainda continua a ser uma séria ameaça nos dias de hoje. Por esta razão,
novos métodos de deteção e descontaminação de agentes químicos de guerra continuam a ser
uma prioridade para a NATO. Neste trabalho é descrito o uso de líquidos iónicos como novos
métodos de descontaminação de AQG. Este trabalho foi desenvolvido no âmbito do projeto da
NATO (EnzIL - Biofriendly decontamination of Chemical Warfare Agents, G5713), que visa
o desenvolvimento de métodos de descontaminação biocompatíveis. Assim, foram sintetizados
diferentes líquidos iónicos e mistura eutéticas, e feita a sua análise como sorventes de
simulantes de AGQ.

Thus, this work describes the application of ionic liquids (IL) to their decontamination and was developed as part of NATO’s research project (EnzIL - Biofriendly decontamination of Chemical Warfare Agents, G5713), that aims to investigate biocompatible decontamination methods. As such, ILs and euthetic mixtures were synthesized and analyzed as sorbents of CWAs simulants.
