Telomeres are nucleoprotein structures at chromosome terminal. In each cell division telomere length is reduced and take´s place the senescense. This reduce of length can be preserve by telomerase. Decrease of telomerase activity in PBMC have been reported in HIV infected patients and has been related with senescence. In a study with HIV-infected patients of South Africa and doing anti-retroviral terapy, telomere lenght was found to be shorter. What the role of telomerase and telomere in the HIV viral infection? These are questions that have been studied throughout years. This way I will try to understand if there´s a association between the lenght of telomere and the telomerase activity in HIV-infected patients and the course of disease in non-progressors HIV-infected pacients and if the NRTI terapy for HIV infection play any role in shortening of the lenght of telomere and subsequent premature aging.
