An Art Education Project is presented – named Bichos (Animals) – developed in EVT classroom (Arts subject), with 6th graders (11 to 14 years old). The motivation question Do animals have feelings? provided the basis to define a Unit, exploring the motivational potential brought by knowledge and confrontation with art works, that deal with the animals theme (from Henri Rousseau and Paula Rego paintings). From art work we seek to raise its importance in the stimulus of the perception, critic thinking, and creativity. Actions are set into context and learnings, which are defined in the subject curriculum, have been structured. These learning actions are inherent to the visual language code and essential to obtaining key knowledge of Art Literacy – The final goal of the subject area of Art Education, for the Elementary Education. The educational action is complemented with the observation of other author’s art work, with references to the subject’s theme studied (Júlio Pomar, Júlio Resende, and Miguel Branco), and also through the school trip to a Nucleon of Art – the José-Augusto França, in Tomar city. To support and contextualize this action, as Artistic Education activity, the main Art Education currents are revised, between the Ancient era and nowadays, as well as to look retrospectively to the legal context and curriculum of Art Education. Considerations are made about the dynamic of the pedagogical intervention, underlining the change of student attitudes in the classroom as well as the quality and creativity of their creations. The achieved results are used for reflection, and the fulfillment of actions that increase the spirit of discovery is defined as crucial, whilst capturing the interest on the learning leitmotiv. This thesis is concluded with potential ideas for future projectspor
