“Mobilidade” e a “Diversidade Cultural”.
The present report documents the activities developed during the Supervised Teaching Practice in the course unit of Introduction to Professional Practice III, of the Master’s degree in Geography Teaching for the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and Secondary Education. The document represents the methodological options and pedagogical interventions in Geography and Citizenship, performed with 8th-grade students, class A, at Bobadela’s Elementary School, integrated into the theme “Population”, more specifically in the subtopics “Mobility” and “Cultural Diversity”. The strategies employed in the development of the activities were diversified, implementing Active Learning, such as Problem-Based Learning, techniques like Roleplay and work in small groups. The tasks were named “Causes of Migrations”, “A Migrant Diary” and “The World at Our School”, in order as mentioned before. These activities were developed inside of the classroom, with the occasional use of the school library and the computer room. The complete work was later exhibited for all the school community to see in an initiative promoted by the school cluster called “Intercultural Week”, where every student can present and observe others works. The data analysis shows the relevance of Active Learning strategies, in promoting the progression of Geography’s Essential Learning references. The students showed great entusiasm for the activities, demonstrating consistent motivation throughout all the tasks completed. With the implementation of these activities, students were able to develop geographical and critical thinking about local and global cultural diversity, as such the migrants position while facing a migrantion process. This teaching sequence promoted the skills set out in the Students Profile When Leaving Compulsory Schooling, making students of 8th-grade, class A, more capable of handling everyday activities, as well as for their training and professional future.
