The simultaneity between material environments and virtual environments has its equivalence in the tangible (aesthetic) and intangible (historical, semiotic, teleological) dimensions of the textless book. This article proposes a taxonomic classification of this type of book, taking characteristics as a set of signs capable to indicate categories. The work starts from the analysis of two types of textless book: picture books and artist’s books, their relations, classifications and subcategories related to the creative process. These characteristics are taken as codes to establish a reflection about the reading of visual codes, also related to our methodology of analysis in four stages that correspond to the four dimensions of space-time: 1st dimension - line (drawing); 2nd dimension - plane (page); 3rd dimension - object (book); and 4th dimension - time (narrative)
