| dc.description.abstract | In this master’s thesis in Sciences of Conservation, Restoration and Production of Contemporary Art, a practical study is presented, with its theoretical context, on the Preventive Conservation of Bibliographic Collections issues and norms, using as a case study the existing collection in the storage facilities of the Library of the attached building of the Casa de Rui Barbosa Foundation, in Rio de Janeiro – Brasil. The selection of this institution was due to its collection, mainly composed of bibliographical specimens of the 20th century, also containing some national journals; as well as to the fact that issues related to Preventive Conservation have already been taken into account, which enabled us to develop an analysis and a theoretical reflection on this subject. With this aim, we initiate this study with the establishment of a theoretical framework of the Preventive Conservation applied to collections of this nature, referring to several specific agents of degradation and issues related to risk analysis. Lastly, ways of managing these same risks are developed, as well as issues related to the implementation of a Preventive Conservation Plan, looking for solutions and procedures to solve the major problems that arise in this type of situations. For the accomplishment of this chapter, the bibliography produced by the main institutions of the area was followed. The analysis of our case study begins with a historical framework of the Casa de Rui Barbosa Foundation and its Museum-House, defining its purpose and mission. Subsequently, the building and its collection are presented, considering issues related to the practical work developed in a traineeship carried out in the institution, between September and December of 2017, in the light of the theoretical concepts presented in the first part.
