Resumo(s)
A biblioteca universitária é o local privilegiado para aceder à informação para a produção do
conhecimento.
Nampula (Moçambique), concretamente a Uni-Lúrio e a UniRovuma.
todas as províncias do país.
tecnológicas do ensino superior.
The university library is the privileged place to access information to produce knowledge. Regardless of the type of formats that may possibly exist, their importance is based on the possibility that the informational content (analog or digital), existing in the collections, can be recovered by users. It is from this conception that the present research arises, which aims to (1) aknowledge the current realities of university libraries, and its scope in the Information and Knowledge Society, particularly in the context of Mozambique. It also sought (2) to understand the organizational structures of the libraries of public universities in Nampula (Mozambique), specifically Uni- Lúrio and UniRovuma. The guarantee of access to information involves the continuous training of professionals, teachers and students. This possibility may cause existing information resources to be brought together, either in accordance with institutional needs or with the demand of users. Mozambique has been experiencing a continuous increase in higher education institutions in all provinces of the country. In this context, the results of the present research emphasize the need to define informational strategies for users, as well as the need to train qualified information professionals in view of the new technological realities of higher education. The results obtained point to ICT, specifically the potential of the Internet, as an essential tool to respond positively to access to information in higher education institutions. Thus, it is imperative that its leaders become aware of the urgency of adopting good informational practices to support the production of scientific knowledge. On the other hand, it is essential that information professionals are aware of their mission for institutional and social development, so they must work not only as "book-servers", but also as intermediaries in the production of knowledge.
