Resumo(s)

Urban segregation, the spatial separation or division of population categories in cities, has received ample attention from academics, politicians, policymakers, and residents ever since the concept was established.’ It is with this quote that Musterd (2023, 1) begins this book and reveals its importance for the contemporary studies debate in general, and urban studies in particular. Urban segregation is a critical issue on social, academic, scientific, and political agendas for several reasons, reflecting its multifaceted impact on society. It has extensive implications for social equity, economic stability, public health, educational outcomes, political representation, environmental justice, and social cohesion. Addressing this issue requires comprehensive policies and interventions that promote integration, equitable resource distribution, and inclusivity, making it a priority for civil society, academics, scientists, and policymakers alike.
