desempenho escolar. Contudo, poucos estudos oferecem uma perspetiva qualitativa e
compreensiva do envolvimento parental em casa. Esta investigação examina as práticas
tradicional.
principal influenciador é a figura parental.
Parental involvement in children’s education, particularly, in home learning activities, is essential to children’s cognitive and socioemotional development, positively influencing scholar learning and achievement. However, few studies offer a qualitative and comprehensive perspective of parental involvement at home. This exploratory study examines the practices and perceptions of parents themselves, in relation to this less traditional type of involvement. In this exploratory study, 15 semi-structured interviews were conducted with parents and mothers of preschool finalist children. Participants were asked about their home-based learning activities and their assigned learning value, the establishing interactions between parents and children, as well as the barriers and facilitators of parental involvement in the activities. The responses were compared according to the gender of the parent. The results point to comprehensive and multidimensional parenting practices and perspectives with respect to activities and their value. In the same way, there are several types of parent-child interaction, whose main influence is the parental figure. In the end, the main contributions of the research are described, and along with the reflection about the limitations, suggestions for future research are provided.
