The purpose of this report is to present the results of curricular internship held at Palácio Pimenta – Museu de Lisboa, around the central theme “Preventive Conservation in the Furniture Collection of the Museu de Lisboa: Criteria and Practices,” within the framework of the master’s degree in Art, Heritage and Restoration Theory. The theme chosen for the preparation of this report comes from a personal taste for the area of Preventive Conservation and from the interest and necessity of the museum in developing a curricular intership in the Furniture Storage Room. The collection of furniture to be studied in the report will be only the collection exposed in the storage rooms at Laranjeiras. With regard, to the Furniture Storage Room of the Museu de Lisboa, it was necessary to reorganize the layout of the collection in the space itself, to update its inventory files, to analyze the pathologies of the collection, and above all to create, from scratch, protect and preserve the collection of any kind of deteriorating factors. Since 1962, the Pimenta Palace belongs to Museu de Lisboa, under the management of EGEAC (Equipment Management and Cultural Animation Company), and it is where the main headquarters are located at. As a historic palace with a collection of great value for national history, it is important to highlight the importance of Preventive Conservation in the collection of furniture storage room, which is one of the points to be dealt with in this report. Today, Preventive Conservation is a focal point for the maintenance and preservation of collections of works of art, and for this reason, it is not enough to study it, but rather to put it into practice, inasmuch as, the fate of cultural objects is increasingly in the hands of all.
