Abstract: The political history of Thebes in the fourth century BC has been generally portrayed by the historiography as integrated into the two hegemonic powers of the southern Balkan Peninsula: Athens and Sparta. This outlook is, however, sadly reductive and far too simplistic in order to understand the real political-strategic extension of Thebes in Greece. The present study, therefore, arises with the ambition of rectifying this gap, stablishing a singular path analysis of the city of Cadmus through a theban perception. Placed this principle, and considering the approximately 50 years in study, three goals take shape. In the first place, identify the internal politics and social dynamics, the agents of power and the main political factions, as well the strategies of each of these groups, either at a local or regional ground. To this, is articulated the second goal which aims to unveil the political organic and position of Thebes in Boeotia background, adjusted to patrios boiotia. The last aim is dedicated to a comprehension of the diplomatic relations between Cadmeia and the rest of the Greek world, in particular, with Pnyx and Eurotas.
