Abstract(s)
Uma corrente maioritária dos estudos teatrais divide o teatro em duas grandes
espécies: o teatro literário e o teatro não-literário. Demonstra-se como estes dois
conceitos limitam o olhar sobre espetáculos e literatura dramática bem como sobre a
relação entre ambas as artes, confinando-as a uma história de tensões num esquema
dualista e antitético. É por isso que sobre a afirmação de que o teatro é diferente da
literatura paira a afirmação de que o teatro e a literatura são artes idênticas, como se
uma não se pudesse ouvir sem a outra.
Com o intuito de relativizar a preponderância destas ideias e fugir à sua
autoridade, propõe-se, seguindo uma certa tradição da filosofia epistemológica, uma
perspetiva mais livre. Desembaraçando o teatro e a literatura de um saber que procura
a certeza numa inacessibilidade hipotética e numa unidade por desvelar, estar-se-á
mais disponível para o encontro e reconhecimento do objeto bem como da asserção de
que uma coisa não é outra coisa.
A major trend in theatre studies divides theatre into two types: the literary and the non-literary theatre. This thesis demonstrates how such partition restricts the way we look at performances and read drama, but also how it influences the relationship between both arts, confining them to a story of tensions within an antithetic and dual scheme. For that reason, when we say that theatre is different from literature, this assertion is necessarily accompanied by the presumably antithetic claim that theatre and literature are identical, as if one assertion could not be understood without the other. This dissertation seeks an alternative to the preponderance of these ideas in order to escape from their authority. By following a certain tradition of epistemology, one can find an ampler perspective, one that liberates theatre and literature from a concept of knowledge that aims to achieve certainty and unanimity. Through the use of a different concept of knowledge we will be better positioned to meet and acknowledge the object as well as the assertion that one thing is not the other.
