A aquisição
Abstract: Since childhood that we should be stimulated to reading and we also should keep in our minds the motivating notion that not only reading but also writing are the master key to enter in a brand new world, which is constantly being built and rebuilt. And this process should be stimulated in every single child, when he learns how to read. The child needs time to dream, because it´s very important to create his imaginary world, where his fantasies will give him strength enough to face his real life. The acquisition of skills, which also includes being able to reading, becomes worthless when the things we learn or read add no value to enrich our inner life. Creating reading habits and combat illiteracy rate becomes a complex task, because not all children/ young people have a family environment that will boost the reading. A lack of economic resources, ignorance, and so many other reasons lead people to illiteracy. Therefore schools and libraries have an important role in this process as mediators of reading, forming a partnership to address the weaknesses. Having in mind the goals of the public library and attached to education, information, culture, leisure and the need to ensure its action with other educational partners such as schools and school libraries, to promote success of both sides and form new readers. With this study we wanted to know in what way the fairy tale is used by teachers as a strategy to promote reading among pupils. It would be extremely efficient if teachers used the fairy tale at school and visited not only the school library but also the public library so that children acquire bookishness and feel the joy to discover by themselves or with the help of the teacher, things that they did not realize they exist. In this way pupils could also try the enjoyment we get from the adventure of the stories and the wish to know more and more. The research tool used – Questionnaire – was addressed to the Primary School teachers of Escola EB 1 Nº 1 in Alcácer do Sal. Concerning the results, our study shows some opinions and attitudes towards the fairy tale, which is used as a learning tool to stimulate the reading activity. It also shows that the school library and the public library are used by teachers as an essential resource in their experience in teaching.
