Idade de aquisição e partilha de atributos são duas variáveis que têm sido demonstradas,
independentemente, como sendo importantes para a organização da memória semântica.
O objetivo da presente investigação é a análise da relação entre os efeitos da idade de
aquisição e a partilha de atributos. Especificamente, o foco principal é a exploração da
relação entre estas duas variáveis a dois níveis – teórico e empírico. Num nível teórico,
uma perspetiva de redes conexionistas serve como base para a análise pretendida. A um
nível empírico, alguns dados e materiais foram adaptados, enquanto outros foram
especificamente recolhidos para o propósito. Em particular, estimativas da idade de
aquisição de atributos foram recolhidas com 125 estudantes da Faculdade de Psicologia
da Universidade de Lisboa, com idades compreendidas entre os 18 e os 28 anos. Os
principais resultados suportam a existência de uma relação entre a idade de aquisição e
partilha de atributos, existindo uma maior partilha de atributos quando a idade de
aquisição é mais precoce. Um follow-up é proposto com o objetivo da análise da
importância da idade de aquisição e do pioneirismo das marcas e a sua relação com a
partilha de atributos. Limitações do presente estudo e sugestões de futuras investigações
são ainda discutidas, numa secção final.
Age of acquisition and feature sharedness have been independently shown to be important to the organization of semantic memory. The main goal of the present investigation is the relationship analysis between the effects of age of acquisition and feature sharedness. Specifically, the aim is to explore the relationship between age of acquisition and feature sharedness at two levels (theoretical and empirical). The thesis is also organized following these two levels. At theoretical level, a conexionist network perspective serves as a background. At empirical level, materials and data were partly drawn from previous studies, while others were specifically collected for this purpose. In particular, estimates of age of acquisition for features were collected with 125 students from the Faculty de Psychology of the University of Lisbon, aged between 18 and 28. Main results support the existence of a relationship between age of acquisition and feature sharedness, with greater sharedness when early age of acquisition is taken into account. A follow-up is proposed with the aim of an analysis between age of acquisition and pioneering in brands and their relationship with feature sharedness. Study limitations and further suggestions are also discussed in a final separate section.
