Na esteira do centenário da fundação da Sociedade das Nações, o nosso contributo incide sobre a análise do pensamento de uma individualidade da I República Portuguesa, António Maria de Bettencourt Rodrigues (1854-1933), Ministro Plenipotenciário de Portugal em Paris e Ministro dos Negócios Estrangeiros ao tempo da Ditadura Militar, entre 1926 e1928; participou na Conferência da Paz em 1919 e foi Presidente da Delegação Portuguesa enviada à S.D.N., por essa época. O nosso trabalho compreende a criação da Secretaria Portuguesa da Sociedade das Nações no MNE, por Bettencourt Rodrigues, analisando um tema debatido na Organização Internacional: a Sociedade Internacional de Crédito Hipotecário Agrícola como uma das possíveis soluções para a crise da agricultura do pós-I Guerra Mundial, incidindo nas ideias bettencourtianas a propósito dos problemas de produção e exportação que atravessavam países como Portugal e os restantes povos latinos.
O presente exercício resulta do tratamento arquivístico do acervo documental da Secretaria Portuguesa da Sociedade das Nações, realizado no Arquivo/Biblioteca do Instituto Diplomático do Ministério dos Negócios Estrangeiros, em 2017.
In the wake of the centenary of the founding of the League of Nations, our contribution focuses on the analysis of the thought of an individuality of the Portuguese Republic, António Maria de Bettencourt Rodrigues (1854-1933), Portuguese Plenipotentiary Minister in Paris and Minister for Foreign Affairs at the time of the Military Dictatorship, between 1926 and 1928; participated in the Conference of Peace in 1919 and was President of the Portuguese Delegation sent to S.D.N., at that time. Our work includes the creation of the Portuguese Secretariat of the Society of Nations in the Minister of Foreign Affairs, by Bettencourt Rodrigues, analyzing a topic discussed in the International Organization: the International Mortgage Credit Society as one of the possible solutions to the crisis of post-war agriculture Focusing on Bettencourtian ideas about the problems of production and export that crossed countries like Portugal and the other Latin peoples. The present exercise results in the archival treatment of the Archive of the Portuguese Secretariat of the League of Nations, realized in the Archive / Library of the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in 2017.
