A partir
The present project work is dedicated to the study of organizational information systems in a museum context, having as an empirical case study the Lagos Museum (Algarve, Portugal). Oriented towards change, we adopted the action-research methodology with the aim of understanding the relevance of managing the archival information system of the museum institution for the fulfillment of its mission and particular objectives. With the aim of looking for ways to optimize the information system, the study of the context of informational production is developed using organic-functional analysis to know the structure of the system, its limits and its systemic relationships. Based on this method, the entirety of the archival information of the Museum of Lagos was organized in a holistic and integrated perspective, using the operations of classification and description of the information. This intervention will allow the Lagos Museum to access and use its information resources in a contextualized, integrated, continuous way and in accordance with its mission and institutional objectives. Acting at the crossroads between the Humanities and Social Sciences, the results achieved contribute to the expansion of the epistemic renewal underway in Portuguese museums, by complementing the approach to information systems around the collections with the approach to the integrality of the museum system in its dimensions structural, functional and informational, in the light of which the collections are intelligible. This proposal allows museums to fulfill themselves not only as a “place of memory”, but also as a “place with memory.”
