Novas atitudes na medalha contemporânea portuguesa / desvios e convergências é o título do projecto de uma exposição de medalha portuguesa em que são apresentados trabalhos dos artistas António Canau, António Marinho, Carlos Marques, Clara Menéres, Helder Batista, Irene Vilar, João Duarte, Joaquim Correia, José Aurélio, José João Brito, José Rodrigues, José Simão, José Teixeira, Manuela Soares, Maria João Ferreira, Patrícia Bilé, Paula Custódio, Perre Viana, Rui Vasquez, Veiga Luís, Vítor Santos, Zulmiro de Carvalho. A dissertação inclui uma reflexão sobre as artes plásticas e, em particular, a medalha contemporânea, no nosso país, nas décadas de sessenta do século XX até aos nossos dias. Assim como se desenvolveu o enquadramento da situação artística, focando a produção da arte, e seus autores, alguns dos principais prémios e acontecimentos de relevo. E porque se entende que o estudo da medalha contemporânea, não pode estar desligado do conhecimento do ensino desta área em Portugal, apresenta-se o panorama do ensino desta disciplina particular das artes plásticas. Por outro lado, a informação sobre alguns dos mais emblemáticos espaços de apresentação de arte e, por conseguinte, algumas das mais importantes exposições de medalha contemporânea completam a compreensão deste objecto de estudo, procurando-se que as novas perspectivas e abordagens, quer dos autores de medalha, quer do ensino, fossem apresentadas neste contexto. Porque vivemos actualmente num mundo tendencialmente mais global, a referência dos novos territórios da arte e dos novos desafios para a prática curatorial na medalhística mereceram a nossa reflexão, assim como a actuação do público e da crítica.
New attitudes in Portuguese contemporary medal work/divergences and convergences is the title of the project for an exhibition of Portuguese medals where the works of the following artists will be presented: António Canau, António Marinho, Carlos Marques, Clara Menéres, Helder Batista, Irene Vilar, João Duarte, Joaquim Correia, José Aurélio, José João Brito, José Rodrigues, José Simão, José Teixeira, Manuela Soares, Maria João Ferreira, Patrícia Bilé, Paula Custódio, Perre Viana, Rui Vasquez, Veiga Luís, Vítor Santos, Zulmiro de Carvalho. The dissertation includes a reflection on the plastic arts, particularly contemporary medals, in our country since the 1960s until the present. This study aims to present a contextualized overview of the artistic situation, focusing on art production and corresponding authors, as well as on the main awards and key events. Since we are convinced that the study of contemporary medals cannot be dissociated from knowledge of the teaching of this field in Portugal, an overview on the teaching of this particular discipline of plastic arts is also presented. On the other hand, information on the most emblematic venues for art presentation and, accordingly, of the most important contemporary medals exhibitions completes our understanding of the study. This work aims to record and present the new perspectives and approaches by both the authors of the medals and the teachers of the subject. Given that we are living in an increasingly global world, the reference to the new art territories, and to the new challenges it poses to the medal work curatorial practice, are important features of the present work, where we focus both on the public and on the critics
