Nos últimos anos tem-se vindo a assistir a uma crescente procura por destinos turísticos diferenciados, que
permitam experienciar momentos singulares e memoráveis. Esta tendência parece ter-se acentuado com a
crise pandémica, ao mesmo tempo que se verificou um aumento do turismo interno. Neste sentido, as
tipologias de turismo que têm como foco a experiência efetiva de cada indivíduo num determinado território
e a sua envolvência com a comunidade têm merecido crescente atenção por parte de investigadores e
decisores locais. Para além disso, conscientes das alterações climáticas, os consumidores parecem atentar,
cada vez mais, nos produtos ou entidades que incluam nas suas políticas e estratégias de desenvolvimento
o tema da sustentabilidade. O turismo criativo surge, assim, como uma importante resposta a estas questões
no seio da atividade turística, pois ao mesmo tempo que conduz à valorização e diferenciação do património
tangível e intangível, preconiza uma maior aproximação às comunidades.
A presente dissertação tem como objetivo entender de que forma uma aposta no turismo criativo, associada
ao património natural, cultural e às atividades de lazer, poderá contribuir para aumentar a atratividade e a
dinamização sociocultural e económica do concelho de Santarém, dando um enfoque especial à antiga
freguesia de Santa Iria da Ribeira de Santarém. Para este efeito, após uma revisão de literatura a enquadrar
os conceitos-chave da temática, realizaram-se entrevistas a alguns intervenientes locais com relevo na área
e efetuou-se o levantamento e respetiva análise ao estado de conservação dos principais elementos
patrimoniais do concelho, com vista a diagnosticar o seu nível de aproveitamento e as suas potencialidades
a nível turístico. Esta estratégia de investigação e as metodologias empregues foram determinantes para a
realização da análise SWOT que conduziu à delineação de propostas de ideias de turismo criativo e de uma
estratégia de comunicação suscetíveis de virem a ser implementadas no território em estudo.
Embora o município possua uma riqueza histórico-cultural de inegável interesse, conclui-se que não tem
merecido a devida valorização, originando, em alguns casos, perdas patrimoniais irrecuperáveis. Urge,
portanto, que os principais intervenientes locais coloquem as pessoas, a preservação e a dinamização do
património no cerne da agenda cultural e turística de forma a capacitar e engrandecer o orgulho local,
contribuindo para tornar “Santarém” um destino de referência para viver, trabalhar, visitar e investir.
Over the last few years, there has been a trend related to the search for differentiated tourist destinations that allow to experience unique and memorable moments. This trend seems to have been accentuated by the pandemic crisis, at the same time we assisted to an increase in domestic tourism. In this sense, the types of tourism that focus on the effective experience of each individual in a territory and their involvement with the community, have deserved growing attention from researchers and local decision-makers. Additionally, aware of climate changes, consumers seem to pay increasing attention to products or entities that include sustainability practices and concerns in their development policies and strategies. Creative tourism thus emerges as an important way of answering these questions within the tourist activity, as it leads to a greater appreciation and differentiation of tangible and intangible heritage and calls for a closer relationship with communities. This investigation aims to understand how creative tourism, associated with natural and cultural heritage and leisure activities, can contribute to increasing the attractiveness and socio-cultural and economic dynamism of the municipality of Santarém. A special focus is given to the former parish of Santa Iria da Ribeira de Santarém. For this purpose, after a literature review that includes the key-concepts of the subject, interviews were carried out with some relevant local stakeholders along with the analysis of the state of conservation of the main heritage elements of the county in order to diagnose their level of use and tourist potential. The research strategy and the methodology applied were crucial for carrying out the SWOT analysis which culminated in the design of proposals for creative tourism ideas likely to be implemented in the territory. We conclude that although the municipality has an historical and cultural richness of undeniable interest, it has not been properly valued resulting, in some cases, in irrecoverable property losses. It is therefore urgent that the main local players place people as well as the preservation and promotion of heritage at the heart of the tourist and cultural agenda so that local pride can once again be enhanced, contributing to making “Santarém” a reference destination to live, work, visit and invest.
