Com este trabalho de projecto, interessou-me pesquisar o corpo como arquivo da guerra colonial portuguesa (1961-1974) através da investigação artística, desenvolvida nos ensaios que deram origem ao espectáculo Corpo Suspenso, com estreia na Latoaria, Lisboa, a 30 de Abril de 2021.
Neste sentido, num primeiro momento, propus-me investigar, a partir da história [de vida] do meu pai e da sua participação na guerra colonial, as marcas que terão ficado no seu corpo e a forma como estas se anunciam no presente, a relação com uma dinâmica de vários tempos / os tempos constituintes da sua identidade.
Num segundo momento, interessou-me explorar o que estas memórias episódicas e autobiográficas do meu pai têm em comum com outras histórias (de ex-combatentes), as implicações políticas e “cicatrizes” que a participação na guerra colonial portuguesa deixou nos vários corpos e a compreensão desta ideia de corpo arquivo dentro do próprio espectáculo, a biografia de um “homem-corpo” que serve para contar a história, o corpo da performer em cena e o do espectador, a sobreposição de vários corpos e de “vários tempos”.
With this project, I was interested in studying the body as an archive of the Portuguese colonial war (1961-1974) through the process of artistic research, developed in the rehearsals that lead to the creation of the performance titled Corpo Suspenso, premiered at Latoaria, Lisbon, on April 30, 2021. Firstly, I draw on my father's life story and on his participation in the colonial war, to explore the marks that must have remained on his body, and the way in which those become manifest in the present, the relationship with a dynamic of multi-temporalities and/or the constituent times of his identity. Secondly, I was interested in exploring what my father's episodic and autobiographical memory had in common with other life stories (of former combatants), the political implications and “scars” that the participation in the Portuguese colonial war has left on the various bodies, and the understanding of this idea of body archive within the show itself, the biography of a “man-body” that serves to tell the story, the body of the performer on stage and the spectator, the superposition of several bodies and “several temporalities/tenses”. Taking into account the above, I analysed the concept of body archive (body as an extension of other temporalities), the performance (also assuming the place of overlapping “times-presences”), and the idea of memory, in its form of incorporation (‘ghostly matters’).
