Can art be taught? Courbet’s answer was no: art cannot be taught. When it comes to art, there are no students or teachers. Each one must learn to understand and express his or her own age through art. We do not teach how to view art. It is art that teaches us how to view. For Jorge Oteiza, in the classroom artists must transmit a new vision, “because the world does not change with art, but through people that art has changed.”
