islamismo.
Isto, permitirá entender quer a transmissão, quer o
desenvolvimento dessas religiões no território.
apresentada. Por fim, apresentaremos as nossas conclusões.
The aim of this dissertation is to study of Death from the 2nd to the 10th century on the Western part of the Iberian Peninsula, that corresponds to the present territory of Portugal. Consequently, we will analyse the religions that dominated during those centuries – the Roman religion, Christianity and Islam – in terms of their practices, rituals and beliefs in regard to death. In this topic, the religions are: Roman religion, Christianity and Islamic. Firstly, the approach will concern the occupation of the Iberian Peninsula during the centuries under study. In this way, it will be possible to understand how these religions came to the territory and how their development occurred. Secondly, we will analyse each religion and its funerary rituals, beliefs and practices. Thus, it will be possible to understand what, according to the beforementioned religions, ought to be done to guarantee that the deceased would reach the afterlife and well-being. It is important to mention that, whenever possible, we will use studies and excavations from archaeologists to confirm or/and complete the historic information. Finally, we will present our conclusions.
