| dc.description.abstract | O objetivo deste texto é analisar os principais aspetos do envelhecimento dos imigrantes em Portugal nas últimas décadas, com recurso a uma perspetiva demográfica. Para tal, é avaliada a evolução da estrutura etária dos imigrantes, procurando detetar os ritmos e níveis de envelhecimento ao longo do tempo e a sua variação de acordo com a proveniência geográfica. Do ponto de vista metodológico, são utilizados em paralelo os critérios do “país de nascimento” e do “país de nacionalidade”. Os dados confirmam a maior juventude dos imigrantes, bem como um maior ritmo de envelhecimento do que o da população autóctone - embora se trate de envelhecimento na base da pirâmide etária e da população em idade ativa, e não de envelhecimento no topo (aumento de idosos). O caráter recente da imigração para Portugal explica porque, na maioria dos casos, ainda há poucos imigrantes idosos. Para além disto, qualquer que seja o critério utilizado, é muito clara a heterogeneidade interna dos imigrantes, associada à sua origem geográfica. Mais do que falar em envelhecimento em geral, ou do que analisar globalmente o seu perfil etário, interessa discriminar os diferentes grupos existentes nesta população. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | The aim of this paper is to analyze the main aspects of ageing of immigrants in Portugal in recent decades, using a demographic perspective. To this end, we examine the evolution of the age structure of immigrants, trying to detect rhythms and levels of ageing over time and its variation according to geographical origin. From the methodological point of view, the criteria of “country of birth” and “country of citizenship” are used in parallel. The data confirms the greater youth of immigrants and a higher rate of ageing compared to the native population - though it is mostly ageing at the base of the pyramid and at the working age population, not ageing at the top (an increase of the elderly). The recent nature of immigration to Portugal explains why, in most cases, there are few elderly immigrants. In addition, whatever the criterion used, the internal heterogeneity of immigrants, according to their geographical origin, is clear. Rather than talking about immigrants’ ageing in general or analyzing their overall age profile, the need is to discriminate the different groups within this population. | pt_PT |
