This research analyzes the relationship between surveillance capitalism and memory. In the digital age, the commercialization of data and control over our personal information is a constant, often unknown to the user. Continuous storage, with no apparent limits, and the almost permanent accessibility of information by third parties, does not seem to allow data to be forgotten. In this context, the right to be forgotten emerges as a measure to protect the integrity and privacy of the individual, allowing users to request the removal of certain links from the network. However, the application of this right still raises some doubts and controversies. Human memory has Always existed alongside forgetting. They are part of the same process. Remembering is a subjective and selective act, depending on the specific context of each person. Memories are dynamic and susceptible to the passage of time and new interpretations. From an early age, societies sought to preserve knowledge by recording in writing, drawings and images. However, due to the scarcity of resources and fragility of the means, until the advent of the internet, forgetting was always the norm. Digital storage has changed this paradigm, bringing new challenges to our relationship with memory. The constant and indiscriminate recording of data, driven by surveillance capitalism, contradicts the selective process of human memory, threatening the ability to forget and perpetuating continuous surveillance. This research reflects on these issues and on the possibility of reintroducing forgetting in the digital context. A publication, the project component of the research, graphically explores the concepts addressed in three parts: the first section, the introduction, addresses memory in the pre-digital period, the development illustrates the impact of digitization and, finally, the conclusion graphically proposes the reintroduction of forgetting.pt_PT
