As part of the conservation project for the wall paintings in the Salão Nobre of Colégio Infante D. Henrique in Funchal, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, the purpose of the dissertation was to study and develop a treatment proposal with a view to stabilizing and enhancing them. To define an intervention strategy consistent with the changes observed and to promote greater knowledge of the work, we began by framing the building, the context in which the work was produced and its technology. At the same time, environmental conditions were assessed, and the state of conservation was surveyed, and a risk assessment was prepared, which justified the presentation of a work plan structured in two phases. The first phase, carried out on an emergency basis in January 2024, aimed to minimize the risk of imminent loss of the chromatic layer through its consolidation and fixation. The second phase will take place after the necessary work for the requalification of the property, to correct the anomalies recorded at the building level and foresee the execution of all the necessary works not only for its conservation but also for its presentation, to promote a better understanding of pictorial coatings. To evaluate what could be done to improve the presentation and perception of the whole, a chromatic reconstruction test was also carried out for three figurative recordings that present an extension of gaps greater than 50% and for one of the still lives, whose discontinuity, although smaller, it is disruptive. The study had as references the existing visual documentation in the College's archive and sought to evaluate the scope of the restitution of formal unity, through the connection between the traces of the chromatic layer and the gap areas through a monochromatic weave, worked with different gradations of bluish gray, thus allowing a clear distinction between the two.
