The combined oral contraceptives has been developed and improved in order to suit the individual profile of each woman and have fewer side effects. Has been discussed the safety profile of these drugs, however, there still are some controversial issues about this issue. So, it is important to continually review the literature in order to compile all the information that exists, as well as researching the latest developments to have access to the more updated information. This way, this study aimed to characterize the health profile of users of oral contraceptives 3rd and 4th generations, through a transversal study that included a population of 200 women at reproductive age. It was concluded that the use of COC is not always the most appropriate. Even though in a small number, the fact is that there are women with risk factors, particularly for cardiovascular disease, which are aggravated with the use of CO. In general, most of the health problems reported were circulation problems (30.77%), spills (30.77%) and varicose veins (15.38%).
